policy of memory is of particular importance, which solves important tasks: the substantiation of financial and territorial claims, the formation of a certain image of the opponent country; national identity, legalization of the regime. In the 1990s, the Russian Federation received many claims from former allies who considered Russia to be the successor to the USSR and, therefore, responsible for its \u201cdebts\u201d. Historical events affecting the national consciousness, such as the Holocaust, the Katyn affair, and others related to World War II and the post-war period, which have the status of global problems, gained special significance in memory politics. Against this background, there is a growing desire of countries to emphasize their national identity and increase their role in the international arena. The entire arsenal of historical memory is being used. The dominant trend, common to the majority, is the confrontation with Russia, the desire to level the role of the USSR (Russia) in World War II and the defeat of Nazism, to identify Nazism and Communism. In the policy of memory, national features are manifested, due to history, culture and level of development. In Russia, the policy of memory is implemented at the federal level, regional and even at the level of local government, which can also be considered as a feature. As others, we will highlight: traumatism, collectivism, patriotism. The role of historical science in memory policy is particularly increasing.
