This article examines the commemoration experience of Ireland in the context of the formation of regional identity of the inhabitants of both parts of the &#171;Emerald Isle&#187; and the implementation of the policy of historical memory. The author examines the peculiarities of the representation of two historical subjects \u2014 &#171;Easter Rising&#187; in Ireland in 1916 and the First World War (&#171;Great War&#187;) of 1914-1918, making an excursion into the history of their emergence and development, and defines the connection in the general historical and cultural space of the inhabitants of the Irish Free State (since 1949 \u2014 Republic of Ireland) and Northern Ireland. The main goal of the author is to identify the features of the commemorative experience in order to preserve the ideas about the &#171;Great War&#187; and &#171;Easter Rising&#187; in the process of studying this problem and to determine the nature of the historical and political connection between the assessments of these events as historical narratives in modern Ireland. As a result of the study, we can conclude that, despite the controversial nature of the issue, in Ireland, &#171;Easter Rising&#187; and &#171;Great War&#187; acquire their significance. If the First World War was not perceived as the &#171;Great War&#187; for a long time and at the present stage it is remembered as the First World War, then the &#171;Easter Rising&#187; acquires the greatest significance for the inhabitants of the Republic of Ireland, which has become a symbol of the struggle for independence from Great Britain.
